About Brecon Mountain Railway

Brecon Mountain Railway is a heritage steam railway running from Pant, just north of Merthyr Tydfil, into Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park in South Wales. Trains are hauled by vintage steam locomotives and all‑weather carriages.

The line follows part of the old Brecon & Merthyr Railway through the Taf Fechan Valley, past Pontsticill and alongside the Taf Fechan Reservoir, before climbing to Torpantau high in the mountains. Views of water, woodland and open hillsides change along the route.

There is time to pause at Pontsticill on the return journey, with a café, play area and walks along the reservoir. At Pant Station you will find tearooms, a gift shop, picnic area and workshop viewing area.

Journeys are suitable for all ages, and dogs are welcome for a small additional fee, with assistance dogs travelling free.
