About Tour de France 2027-Stage 3 Welshpool to Cardiff

The 2027 Tour de France will begin with a landmark Grand Départ in Great Britain, the first time the race has opened across Scotland, England and Wales. The men’s race will start in Edinburgh on 2 July 2027, travel south through England, and conclude its UK stages in Wales before continuing on to mainland Europe.

The Welshpool to Cardiff stage will be Stage 3, held on Sunday 4 July 2027, and will be the final stage of the British Grand Départ. It will mark the first occasion that the men’s Tour de France has raced through Wales, making it a historic moment for Welsh sport. The stage will start in Welshpool, Powys, and finish in Cardiff, the capital city.

At approximately 220–225 kilometres, the stage is expected to be long and challenging. The opening section is likely to be relatively rolling, but the later part of the route in south Wales is expected to include several testing climbs. These climbs could create time gaps and offer opportunities for aggressive racing, particularly from riders targeting the general classification.

The finish in Cardiff city centre, close to landmarks such as the Principality Stadium, is expected to provide a dramatic and spectator-friendly finale. Depending on how the race unfolds, the stage could suit strong breakaway riders or punchy climbers rather than pure sprinters.

Overall, the Welshpool to Cardiff stage is set to be one of the standout moments of the 2027 Tour de France. It carries major sporting and cultural significance for Wales and is expected to attract large crowds along the route and at the finish.
