Llwybr Coedwig Cymru Trail - Section 1

Starting at Porthkerry Country Park the first 2 km of the route takes you alongside woodlands of national importance and into woodlands that showcase the heritage of the forestry industry from the 19th Century. 

As you leave the park, the route continues on pedestrian footway alongside the boundary of Middleton plantation, a mixed broadleaf plantation and Middleton Wood, part of Coedydd y Barri SSSI, a site of special scientific interest notified for its semi-natural broadleaved woodland. The route then follows the old road, known locally as five-mile lane, and is open to pedestrians and cyclists. It then continues along the boundary to Sutton Wood.

Continue for 3km along this route and you will pass the entrance to Amelia Trust Farm, home of Coed Whitton and one of the National Forest for Wales sites.  You will see the woodland to the west of the path through the hedgerow.

As the route continues towards Bonvilston, you will see broadleaved woodlands to the east and west of the route. As you enter this village you can access the many amenities here, including pubs, cafes and village shop. Leaving the village the route heads north towards Hensol Forest and past Ty Cerrig Christmas Tree Farm. As you pass Ty Cerrig you will enter Hensol Forest.

The route continues for 3km through these National Forest for Wales woodlands, managed by Natural Resources Wales.
