About The National Botanic Garden of Wales
The National Botanic Garden of Wales is a place of international significance dedicated to conservation, horticulture, science, education, leisure and the arts. As a landmark Millennium project, the Garden is a fascinating blend of the modern and historic, covering 568 acres of the beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside.
Here you’ll find an inspiring range of themed gardens with a collection of over 8,000 different plant varieties, the world’s largest single-span glasshouse, orchid-filled meadows, a National Nature Reserve, children’s play areas, and a magical Gruffalo Trail - all set in an Historical Regency Landscape, which provides the perfect setting for a packed programme of activities throughout the year.
The Garden's centrepiece is the Great Glasshouse designed by Norman Foster and Partners. Inside the amazing, tilted glass dome, is a Mediterranean landscape dominated by a six-metre deep ravine. Rock terraces and sheer faces are cut by streams and waterfalls. A lake provides a humid habitat at the foot of the chasm. Visitors are able to experience the aftermath of an Australian bush fire, pause in a Spanish olive grove or wander through collections of fuchsias from Chile.
Further into the wider landscape is the recently restored historic regency parkland where you can explore lakes, dams, bridges, cascades and a waterfall over miles of unique purpose built trails. Featuring dedicated entry days for dogs throughout the week, the Garden is the perfect place for walking enthusiasts.
Open all year round, the Garden has a variety of eating areas, serving quality local produce, a garden centre open to the public and a gift shop showcasing both local and Wales-wide arts & crafts. The Garden also hosts a range of spectacular events and Public Programmes throughout the year, from Food Festivals and Antiques Fairs to Live Music Concerts, Family Friendly Seasonal Activities, Exhibitions and a range of Workshops and Tours for all ages.
You’ll find us just off the main M4/A48 dual carriageway in Carmarthenshire, just an hour west of Cardiff.
