Y Llofft Wair at Cambrian Cottages is a welcoming eco-friendly self-catering apartment in rural Carmarthenshire, near Pencader, sleeping up to four guests. Set within a restored Victorian barn around 12 miles north of Carmarthen, it offers a peaceful valley setting, dark skies and easy access to Brechfa Forest, Llanllwni mountain and the wider landscapes of West Wales.
Award-winning for both quality and sustainability, Cambrian Cottages has received the Carmarthenshire Tourism Association 2024 Best Self Catering Award, the 2025 National Tourism Awards for Wales 'Bro a Byd' Sustainability Award, Green Tourism Gold Award accreditation, and the Carmarthenshire Tourism Ambassador Gold Award.
Y Llofft Wair, the Hayloft, combines traditional character with modern comfort and accommodates up to four guests across two bedrooms. The apartment is all on one level, making it a practical choice for families with children and for guests who prefer ground-level accommodation, though equally popular with couples. Alongside a super king-size bedroom, the second bedroom has adult-sized bunk beds suitable for children or adults.
The fully equipped kitchen includes an induction hob, oven, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, kettle and toaster, with a complimentary welcome pack provided on arrival. Guests can relax on the sofa, enjoy meals at the dining table, or spend cosy evenings by the wood-burning stove with Freesat, Disney+ or one of the board games provided.
The bathroom includes a large walk-in shower, with towels and toiletries provided. All bed linen is included.
For longer stays or remote working, the kitchen table offers convenient power points and 4G Wi-Fi is available throughout the apartment. Mobile coverage is generally good on most networks, and Wi-Fi or Zoom calls can be made from the apartment.
Dogs are welcome by arrangement in advance. Guests are asked to bring their own pet bedding, towels and bowls, and pets should be kept on a lead around the property and off the furniture.
Y Llofft Wair is well suited to walkers and cyclists, with hooks, a boot tray and a drying area for outdoor gear, as well as secure bicycle storage in a separate part of the barn. Guests can explore the surrounding fields, enjoy the large enclosed garden with a seating area and firepit, and take in views across the mountains and countryside. A nearby public footpath leads towards Llanllwni mountain and Brechfa Forest.
Free parking is available immediately beside the apartment entrance, and guests with electric vehicles can also use the on-site communal EV charging point for an additional charge. Both the north and south coast beaches can be reached within around 40 minutes.
