Y Cwt Mochyn at Cambrian Cottages is a cosy eco-friendly self-catering retreat for up to two guests in rural Carmarthenshire, near Pencader. Set in a peaceful valley around 12 miles north of Carmarthen, it offers dark skies, countryside views and a comfortable base for exploring Brechfa Forest, the Cambrian Mountains and the wider landscapes of West Wales.
Award-winning for both quality and sustainability, Cambrian Cottages has received the Carmarthenshire Tourism Association 2024 Best Self Catering Award, the 2025 National Tourism Awards for Wales 'Bro a Byd' Sustainability Award, Green Tourism Gold Award accreditation, and the Carmarthenshire Tourism Ambassador Gold Award.
Recently converted from a Victorian barn and carefully restored, Y Cwt Mochyn combines historic character with modern comfort. The apartment includes a bedroom, shower room, and open-plan kitchen and lounge, with views across the valley towards Llanllwni mountain and the distant Preseli Hills.
The fully equipped kitchen includes an induction hob, oven, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and a complimentary welcome pack. Guests can enjoy breakfast at the table, relax on the sofa, watch Freesat or Disney+, or spend a quieter evening with one of the board games provided.
The bedroom features a king-size bed with natural fillings, and all bed linen is provided. The large walk-in shower includes towels and toiletries for guests' use.
For longer stays or remote working, a table in the bedroom provides a useful workspace with power points, and 4G Wi-Fi is available throughout the apartment. Mobile coverage is normally good on most networks, and Wi-Fi or Zoom calls can be made from the apartment.
Dogs are welcome by arrangement in advance. Guests are asked to bring their own pet bedding, towels and bowls, and pets should be kept off the furniture and on a lead around the property.
Guests are welcome to explore the surrounding fields, walk down to the river at the bottom of the valley, sit in the small seating area by the water, or enjoy the exclusive patio overlooking the valley with its own fire pit. Practical features for walkers and cyclists include hooks and a boot tray, a drying area in the barn, space to hose down muddy boots, bikes and paws, and secure storage in the barn for bikes and outdoor gear.
Y Cwt Mochyn is well placed for exploring rural Carmarthenshire, with both the north and south coast beaches within around 40 minutes. Free parking is available next to the apartment, and guests can also use the on-site EV charge point.
