About Abergavenny Castle and Museum

Abergavenny and Chepstow Museums are now closed for the winter and will re-open on 1 April 2024. This is a planned period of closure to enable us to work on our collections, carry out staff training and refresh our exhibitions and shops. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Please note the grounds of Abergavenny Castle will remain open.

During the open season Abergavenny Castle is open every day 11 - 4 except Wednesdays. The grounds of Abergavenny Castle are open every day 11am - 4pm.
The displays tell the story of this historic market town from prehistory through to the present day. The displays are on several levels, with some help most areas are accessible to wheelchair users.

Our features include:

Regular programme of changing exhibitions
Family activities, including 'Castle Explorers' Backpacks, to help you discover more about the castle.
Workshops and events - please check our events page or contact us to find out about any forthcoming events.

Small gift shop to enable you to purchase a souvenir of your visit.
Cost: Free admission for all (charges apply at some special events).


Abergavenny Museum where you can enjoy a picnic during the summer & a brisk walk on colder days.
