The Celtic Cup 2026 marks an exciting new chapter in triathlon competition, bringing together the very best athletes from Triathlon Cymru, Triathlon Scotland, and Triathlon Ireland to race for national pride.
Originally planned as a two-nation event in 2025, the inaugural Celtic Cup was unfortunately postponed due to severe weather conditions. Now, in 2026, the event returns bigger and better, welcoming Triathlon Ireland to create a true three-nation showdown.
This historic first edition promises not only high-quality racing but also a weekend of celebration, community, and Celtic spirit.
The Race
Athletes will compete over a standard distance triathlon, set against the stunning coastal backdrop of Llandudno:
Sea Swim: 1500m
Bike: 34.75km
Run: 9.4km
With national teams going head-to-head, the Celtic Cup will showcase some of the strongest talent from across the home nations in a competitive and inspiring environment.
Racing for Your Nation
The Celtic Cup is a team-based competition, where selected athletes represent their nation and compete for the overall title.
The Welsh team has been carefully selected from:
Athletes who qualified for the postponed 2025 event
Athletes awarded discretionary places following an application process
All selected athletes will have the honour of racing in Welsh kit, representing Triathlon Cymru on an international stage.
A Weekend of Celebration
The Celtic Cup is more than just race day, it's a full weekend experience for athletes, supporters, and the local community.
Planned activities include:
Community Day – opportunities for participation and engagement sessions
Parade of Nations – celebrate the athletes and teams representing each nation
Shake Out Run – a relaxed pre-race session to bring athletes together
Whether you're competing, supporting, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
