About Oswestry Balloon Carnival 2026
Balloon Carnival 2026 is one of the standout summer events in Oswestry, bringing colour, community spirit, and family fun to the heart of the town.
Taking place over the weekend of 22 - 23 August 2026 in Cae Glas Park, the carnival is a two-day celebration centred around the spectacle of hot air balloons. Around 20 balloons are expected to participate, with launches typically planned for early mornings and evenings, although, as always with ballooning, everything depends on the weather and safety conditions on the day.
At its core, the event is about more than just balloons. It’s a lively, welcoming festival designed for all ages, featuring entertainment, food stalls, craft vendors, and activities that keep the park buzzing throughout the weekend. One of the most anticipated highlights is the evening “night glow,” where tethered balloons light up in synchrony, creating a magical, illuminated display set against the dusk sky.
What makes the carnival especially meaningful is its community focus. Entry is free, though visitors are encouraged to give a small voluntary donation in support of Nightingale House Hospice, the local charity that helps organise the event. The carnival not only provides a memorable day out but also raises vital funds for hospice care, giving it a strong sense of purpose alongside the festivities.
The atmosphere across the weekend is relaxed and inclusive. Families arrive early to enjoy the park, watch balloons inflate, and take part in the entertainment, while later in the day the crowds gather in anticipation of flights or the evening displays. Even if the weather prevents balloons from flying, the event still offers plenty to see and do, ensuring it remains enjoyable regardless.
