This September, more than 200 of Wales' historic sites, landmarks and hidden gems will offer visitors free entry, events or guided tours.
The dominating stone façade of Penrhyn Castle hides more than just its internal redbrick construction. The unique architecture, opulent interiors and fine art collection sit alongside a history of sugar and slate fortunes.

As part of Open Doors Weekend, visitors have an opportunity to explore the grandeur and opulence of Penrhyn Castle. Enjoy a walk through the Castle’s magnificent formal rooms, once used to entertain guests, and discover the stories behind these impressive spaces.
Continue your journey into the Victorian kitchens, where the fire is lit and the air is filled with the aromas of traditional cooking, bringing the smells of the past to life.
During your visit, you will also have the chance to watch quarrymen from the National Slate Museum demonstrate the skilled craft of splitting and dressing slate.
The extensive grounds are perfect for exploring and enjoying spectacular views of Eryri (Snowdonia) and the North Wales coast.
