About Foxglove & Honeysuckle Cottages
‘It is rare to find a place that genuinely feels so loved. We hope anyone who stays here enjoys the experience as much as us.’ Norma Lloyd (2024).
‘Simply excellent in all aspects. The owners were amazing.’ Mary Pyatt (2025).
Foxglove Cottage is Visit Wales 4 Star Accredited stone built country cottage situated above the wide-open Gwaun Valley and nestled below the Preseli Hills. The cottage is set in the heart of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, four miles, by road, from the village of Newport and the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. To one side stands proud Foel Eryr (Eagle Mountain) and to the other, mighty Carningli (Mountain of Angles) and beyond that is the Atlantic Ocean. The Gwaun is a very special place: its’s steeped in Welsh tradition and culture and its peace and tranquillity will call you to it and it will lure you back time and again.
This warm and cosy self-catering country cottage is set in open and rolling farmland with wonderful views. But what makes it different is its focus on providing purpose-built facilities for walkers and cyclists: a drying room with independent lockable storage; a map room for walking instruction, planning and local information; carriage to and from walking start and finish when feasible; and an indoor bike-friendly facility for housing, cleaning and repairing bikes. Visit Wales has assessed it as Walker Friendly and Bike Friendly.
The cottage is set in approximately one acre of land alongside a two-storey main residence - Dan Y Mynydd (‘Under the Mountain’ in English) which is lived in by Ian and Carol Pattinson – your hosts. Both the buildings date to the 18th century and are of local stone construction: they were originally farm outbuildings.
In January 2025, Foxglove was extensively altered and modernised to a very high standard. It consists of a double bedroom with a large walk-in shower in its private en-suite, a twin bedroom with private en-suite consisting of a bath with shower over, a large and modern kitchen-diner and a separate lounge. The diner and the lunge both have Smart TVs and the whole property is served by unlimited superfast broadband.
The cottage enjoys private parking and is surrounded by secluded lawned gardens, and open views of the countryside and farmland. There is amply garden furniture and BBQ facilities.
When you return from your day out, regardless of whether you have had an energetic day’s walking, whether you have been sightseeing, or relaxing by the coast or in the hills, you want to unwind and relax. You will be able to enjoy comfortable, clean and warm surroundings; or soak away in constant hot water. The green energy biomass system will see to that!
If you want to wash and dry your own clothes and have somewhere to hang them, you can; if you want to be able to sit outside in your own private area with your own garden furniture, you can. And when you get to your bed you want to be able to sleep soundly and in comfort knowing that you are secure in your 2 feet thick-walled surroundings, and dream of what the next day holds for you – you can do that as well.
There are no hidden extra costs. Ian and carol offer a really great cottage, at a very reasonable price. There are no hidden extra charges. All electricity and gas, water, towels, bedding and the starter packs are included in the price. Simply excellent value.
