About A J Ludlow Colours Watercolour Painting Café

A J Ludlow Colours Watercolour Painting Café forms part of a working artist’s studio and watercolour paint making workshop. It is here that we can offer watercolour painting as an indoor activity and passionately promote it as a means of well-being and a great way to de-stress and unwind; watercolour painting as a creative artform, has long been recognised for its relaxing and therapeutic nature. Watercolour painting is also fun and, in the studio’s relaxed environment, is the ideal place for some me-time or, under the guidance of our expert tutor, a great place to learn a new hobby.

At the Watercolour Painting Café we offer:

• Watercolour painting experiences, including painting workshops and short courses;
• A watercolour art supplies shop, selling our own handmade Professional Watercolour paints, a selection of artisan made Chinese traditional painting brushes and watercolour paper from St Cuthberts Mill;
• The opportunity to view and buy original and affordable art from our gallery;
• A tasty dimension to the visit, with an expertly made cup of coffee or tea and delicious sandwiches from our lunch menu*, to really make the visit special.

The Watercolour Painting Café is situated in Llanreath, Pembroke Dock and overlooks the Milford Haven waterway, with views of the busy port and river traffic. To gain entry to the café and studio there is a short flight of 14 steps from St Patricks Hill and parking at the venue is limited to street parking.

Why not join one of our watercolour painting courses?

Our watercolour painting short courses are designed to help the budding artist explore the variety of techniques used in watercolour painting. Delivered in two-hour sessions, they can be tailored for those who want to learn a new skill whilst on holiday in the area; delivered over a period of three days, rather than the normal period of three weeks. We can also squeeze a short course into a day, so please contact us to discuss details.

Each short course will cover different aspects and there is plenty of hands-on to consolidate learning, with all the art materials needed included.

Feel free to browse our gallery and art supplies shop. Our art is affordable and our shop specialises in top-quality “must-haves” for watercolour painting.

Meiru and Andrew Ludlow are both accomplished artists and it is their work, which is exhibited in the gallery. Meiru’s work is bright and her bold watercolours cover a range of different subjects; they are all painted using the watercolour paints made on site and are ideal as a gift or keepsake souvenir of a wonderful holiday.

As well as being able to purchase the original paintings exhibited in the Gallery, the art supplies shop offers the full range of A J Ludlow Professional Watercolours and mediums, which are handmade by a skilled craftsman in the watercolour making facility. This professional quality range of watercolour paints offer a wide and balanced spectrum of highly pigmented colours, chosen for their excellent permanence and light fastness. Each colour has been specially created to offer the best performance and be a joy to paint with.

The shop also stocks pure pigment powders and a selection of professional quality watercolour art materials, including watercolour paper from St Cuthberts Mill and Chinese and Sumi-e painting brushes, sourced directly from the artisan brush makers in the Orient.

*Food from our café menu is only available pre-ordered, so don’t forget to let us know in advance of your visit so that we can email you our menu.
