About Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary

Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary, a Registered Charity is located in the Upper Swansea Valley on the link road to the Dulais Valley. in an area of scenic beauty not too far from the Henrhyd Waterfall and the National Park. The Sanctuary is a rescue and rehabilitation centre and is a permanent home for many types of unwanted animals, especially primates, such as chimpanzees, baboons, spider monkeys, capuchins, macaques and marmosets. Goats, Scottish Highland cattle, donkeys, zebu and Serval cats have also found a safe haven here.

We undertake rescues from zoos and laboratories where animals have suffered mistreatment and deprivation or are no longer wanted. As they are not equipped for survival in the wild, we can only endeavour to make the rest of their lives as enjoyable and stress free as possible.

Our chimp characters

Visitors to the Sanctuary can see and read about all of the animals and their lives before they settled here and have any questions answered by all of the knowledgeable staff members. Sheltered Picnic areas with good viewing spots are available all over the Sanctuary. A Charity Shop, Vintage Shop and Souvenir Shop complete the scene which together with your admission fees all fund the rescue and care of the animals.
