About Bluestone Brewing Company
Situated on a working farm in the Preseli Hills of North Pembrokeshire.
The 10 barrel brewery is situated in the front yard at Tyriet Farm. The buildings, which are over 200 years old were previously used as a dairy, stables and only 5 months prior to opening our doors as a brewery, new born lambs and calves were being reared in them. Given the history of the buildings, the brewery could have been named anything from the ‘The Old Barn Brewery’ to the ‘Dairy House Brewery’.
Over 6 months an extensive renovation took place providing an ideal building for a new 10 barrel plant and office area.
The name Bluestone Brewing Company is derived from the local stone that the buildings, were built from many years ago. The Preseli Mountains stand behind the property and within a few miles of the brewery are several famous Bluestone monuments including the standing stones “Cromlech” at Pentre Ifan. The bluestone is probably most famous as the Dolerite rock blocks, which were somehow transported 250 miles to Stonehenge over 5000 years ago. The stone is a deep blue-grey colour and is commonly used as a traditional building material in this area.
The water we use for brewing filters down off the Preseli Mountains, through the organically farmed land at Tyriet, and collects in a well at the foot of the hills. As beer is 98% water, the quality of Bluestone water gives our beer a purity unique to this traditional brewing area of North Pembrokeshire……………..and after all there is always plenty of water falling from the sky over West Wales.
