About Escape The Mainstream

“Escape with me” on the most beautiful of streams or mountain lakes in the picturesque Welsh Marches or the wilds of Mid Wales; chasing exquisite wild brown trout. Your day will consist of my guiding experience on one of the many tributaries of the Wye, Severn or Usk. If you choose we can always arrange a day on one of the bigger rivers.
Any skill level is most welcome, I’ll arrange a stream or hill lake/reservoir to suit your needs. There’s plenty to ‘go at’ as I’m in the epicentre of some wonderful fly fishing. With rivers such as the Arrow, Lugg, Edw, Cilieni, Llynfi to name just a few, or wild solitary lakes; where our company for the day will be the kites and a few friendly mountain sheep. Llyn Bugeilyn, Gynon, Egnant, Hir or the bigger reservoirs such as Claerwen are always an option, and with the right ripple, sport can be frantic and takes feisty and aggressive.

A trouty wave on one of my favourites..... some good sized brown trout inhabit this gorgeous reservoir.......
Penygarreg Reservoir , Elan Valley

While the season starts in early March, the best of the sport on the smaller streams is generally May, June and July. On the lakes and reservoirs a dirty, dull day is better with a good westerly breeze.
