About Carmarthen Golf Club
Three miles or so up the slopes of the Gwili Valley from Carmarthen, amid some of the choicest Welsh countryside, the towns golf club has considerably enhanced its outlook by building another storey on top of the clubhouse. The result is a magnificent lounge and dining room with clear views over even more stunning scenery.

When the club was first formed in 1907, they played near the centre of Carmarthen, then the capital of Carmarthenshire. In 1928, they moved north to a new course designed by J.H. Taylor at Rhydymarchog, a rural delight. Chosen in 1994 to stage the Welsh Team Championships and the South Wales Boys Tournament, Carmarthen is a much stiffer challenge than its length would suggest.
The first, a long and difficult uphill par four, sets the tone for the a parkland course that is rarely conquered by first time visitors. The dog-legged 17th, with its two-tier green ambushes many who think they have. It is the tricky greens in general that are the key to its defences. Few manage to break 70 here, perhaps they've improved the view from the bar as a consolation to all who try.
