About Top Floor at Cantref House

The Top Floor at Cantref house is a self contained one bedroom with king-size bed accommodation. Situated in the heart of the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) National Park being about 4 miles from the Historic town of Brecon.

The spacious accommodation is at the top of Cantref House and benefits from its own entrance, accessed via 26 outdoor steps which leads to a balcony. It is brightly decorated with a quirky feel. Great views of the beacons from the lounge, bedroom and balcony. There is an information room which has a telescope, leaflets maps etc. on the local area with views looking across to the Black Mountains.

Off the main entrance from the kitchen there is an outdoor balcony area with seating. On arrival there is tea, coffee, milk, wine and a few local products included. Bed linen, towels, kitchen necessities, toiletries and toilet rolls are all provided.

The Flat is completely self contained with its own balcony area for eating alfresco. Guests are welcome to use The Family front lawn area for sitting out too.

The location in the foothills of The Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) National Park is ideal for walks of all levels direct from the doorstep. The highest point of the Beacons Pen y fan can be reached without using your car for keen walkers. The Top Floor is just over 1 mile from the Taff Cycle Trail. Horse Riding is just 5 minutes walk away.
The grade II listed building Cantref House is a former rectory situated next door to the Norman Church St Marys. Both the church and the house were re-built in 1700s. It has been the home of the current family for several generations. Cantref is a peaceful parish of scattered farms and houses.

The Information room (just off the kitchen) has lots of brochures, maps, books on the local area or local history together with a selection of both nonfiction and fiction books. A telescope is supplied to enjoy the dark skies, also a bat detector to detect the many bats flying in and out of the church belfry (next to the house) in the evenings. The room can also be used as a more formal dining space too.

Nearby Brecon with its cathedral, cafes, gift shops, theatre, cinema, river walks etc. enjoys various festivals throughout the year. Brecon Choir Festival in July, Brecon Jazz in August and the renowned Brecon Baroque Festival in October with famous violinist Rachel Podger at the helm. Theatre Brycheiniog has an excellent variety of drama, music, comedy, ballet and opera.

It should be noted that whilst we welcome children - the steps are not suitable for toddlers or very young children. Also, the electric car charger is an ordinary 3 pin outdoor socket (next to guest car park space) which will take several hours to charge - but is suitable for overnight charge. The National Park have recently placed extra charges at key points in the park.
