Garthfain is in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. Set in a quiet position on the edge of the village of Dolwyddelan, Garthfain offers a tranquil base between the bustling tourist village of Betws y Coed and the attractions of Blaenau Ffestiniog,The coastal town of Porthmadog with it's nearby sandy beaches at Borth y Gest, Criccieth with it's crescent of sand and shingle that sits in the lee of a rocky headland upon which stands the imposing ruins of a 13th century castle makes an excellent family beach and Llandudno with it's broad sweep of sand and shingle are only about 30 minutes drive away. The great variety of walking and cycling routes in the area and the beautiful scenery of the Lledr valley. The railway branch line from Llandudno and Conwy through the valley stops in the village, and connects with the Ffestiniog railway in Blaenau to journey on a narrow gauge steam train to Porthmadog. Also in Blaenau are Zip World Slate Caverns offering tours and Bounce Below (underground trampolines) as well as zip lines and an extreme downhill mountain bike track. For families with younger children Zip World Forest with it Fforest Coaster Experience, Treetop Nets and Treetop Hoppers is just a 15 minute drive towards Llanrwst from the cottage.
