About Carregfelen

Tatler February 2021 "To see this house on a June evening is enchanting: roses running wild, candles blazing and, of course, those mesmerising views. A true midsummer night's dream"

This charming, 14th Century Manor House is owned by the Williams-Ellis family (Portmeirion) who are happy to share with guests who will love the house as much as they do. Outside are sloping lawns, an orchard bursting with apples and a wildflower meadow – the gardens are an explosion of colour during Spring and Summer. Inside is a beautiful furnished hall, two sitting rooms (one on the ground floor and another up a few steps in the annex - designed by Clough Williams-Ellis in the 1920’s”. The more formal dining room with family portraits is reminiscent of a medieval banquet hall. Although the bedrooms are all full of objects d’art which have been collected by the family across the generations, Carregfelen is very much a family home. Although full of history, the kitchen and bathrooms are very contemporary and there is superfast Wi-Fi. Put on your wellies and explore the surrounding private woodlands.

Carregfelen nestles on the private, leafy Wern Estate on the edge of Snowdonia. This is the gateway to enjoy the very best that the Llyn Peninsula has to offer. The mountains of Snowdonia; the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways; Glorious Castles; Walking, Sailing and Fishing. The delightful seaside town of Criccieth is only minutes away, with its sandy beach and splendid Castle, as is the superb beach at Black Rock. Snowdon is only 35 minutes away - either climb to the summit or take the little railway and enjoy a drink in the new cafe.
