About The Bobbing Boats

The Bobbing Boats overlooks the peaceful harbour of Borth-y-Gest and has superb views across the Glaslyn estuary to the mountains of Merionethshire. The tidal waterway offers a constantly changing panorama of sailing boats, sea birds and sandbanks. Sandy beaches are a short walk (5-10 minutes) beyond the harbour and offer both rocky coves and open sands. Sleeps up to 6. Saturday to Saturday.

This homely cottage offers attractive, sunny accommodation, with mixed furnishings including some antiques. Downstairs are the sitting room with dining area (table seats six) and a recently installed (2020) through kitchen with a bay window. Both rooms have views to the estuary and mountains, while the dining area faces the enclosed garden. The kitchen opens onto the garden via the utility area with a washing machine and has an electric cooker, a microwave oven and a fridge-freezer. There is also a downstairs shower room and WC with wash basin.

Upstairs there are four bedrooms, two doubles (1 king-size & 1 double bed) and two singles, one of them with a wash basin. The double bedrooms have wonderful sea and mountain views and morning sun, while the single bedrooms overlook the garden. There is an upstairs bathroom with shower above the bath. All bedding, towels and tea towels are provided. There are electric radiators for heating.
Borth-y-Gest is well positioned for both local walks and for outings by car, bus or train. Across the estuary lies the Italianate village of Portmeirion, a whimsical gem created by the architect Clough Williams Ellis. Within easy reach are the famous Black Rock sands and the golf links at Morfa Bychan. Snowdon and the nearby mountains are easily accessible. Days out can include Beddgelert, where the river is great for paddling and the cream teas are excellent; Harlech with its castle; Betws-y-Coed - the gateway to Snowdonia.

Closer to home, Borth-y-Gest has a restaurant and two cafes, a slipway for launching boats. In addition, Porthmadog (1 mile) offers a range of shops, an attractive, busy sailing harbour, the terminus of the Ffestiniog narrow-gauge railway and a sports centre with swimming pool.
