The Location

The small village of Rhes-y-Cae is peacefully located on the slopes of Halkyn Mountain an area of common land and Outstanding Natural Beauty where sheep roam freely, and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Endless beautiful countryside surrounds this lovely area of which offers an abundance of scenic walks, cycling and mountain bike trails, while there are also several superb golf courses nearby. The area is renowned for its wonderful panoramic views, with the Clwydian Hill Range and Offa’s Dyke close by.

Rurally located but close to the A55 giving access to the best North Wales has to offer, however we have no immediate facilities in the village so a car is essential. The area surrounding the village boasts a range of good country pubs and eateries.

Nearby is the market town of Mold with its theatre, shops, restaurants and busy market days on Saturday and Wednesday every week. Ruthin home to a vibrant craft centre. Castles at Conwy, Denbigh, Flint and Rhuddlan. The historic St. Winifred’s Well at Holywell which has been a site of pilgrimage since 660 – one of the Seven Wonders of Wales. Greenfield Valley Heritage Park, Loggerheads Country Park with its visitors centre offers the opportunity for glimpsing local wildlife, Moel Famau (the highest summit in the Clwydian range), Moel-y-Gaer iron age hill fort – the list is endless.

Rhes-y-Cae is a perfect base for exploring North Wales, being within easy reach of the many costal resorts including Prestatyn. Ever popular Llandudno with its beaches, pier, shopping and theatre. Conwy with its castle and suspension bridge. Visit the Roman city of Chester, home of the famous shopping Rows, cathedral, city walls, museum, racecourse and world-famous zoo.


The Properties

Boasting a lovely rural setting, Black Lion Cottages are skilfully and lovingly converted from 19th century stone and slate old cow byres to form a row of cottages stylist and comfortable, set on the owners’ farm on the slopes of Halkyn Mountain. The Shippon, Dairy and Bull Room were part of a working dairy farm until 1983.

The Shippon, a warm and friendly, end terrace, with high galleried ceiling and exposed oak beams. The king-size bedroom is on an open mezzanine in the eaves giving a great feeling of space, whilst retaining the natural character of the building. An open plan living area forms the hub of the cottage, with fitted kitchen, dining area and sitting area. A corridor leads off to the bathroom and twin bedroom, formerly the ‘engine room’ for the milking machines. The family bathroom consists of bath, shower over, washbasin and wc. The property can accommodate a maximum of four people including children and infants. Off road parking for two cars.

The Dairy, a delightful, stone-built mid-terrace barn conversion consisting of a lounge, separate well equipped fitted kitchen and dining area, also on the ground floor is a wc with wash basin. Two bedrooms are reached by a flight of stairs, one double bedroom and one single bedroom. A wet room with wc and wash basin is also on this floor. This cottage can accommodate a maximum of three people including children and infants. Off road parking for one car.

The Bull room, home to the bull for many years, is an end terrace cottage with a very low front door. With high galleried ceilings, the sitting room has doors leading out onto a private patio which leads directly to open fields. There are superb views across the open countryside. With a well equipped fitted kitchen and dining area, double bedroom and bathroom with walk-in shower all at ground level. The cottage can accommodate two adults only, sorry no children or infants can be accommodated in this cottage. Off road parking for one car.

There is Eco-friendly underfloor heating throughout ground floors of the cottages and mezzanine. Radiators are fitted in the bedrooms in the Dairy. All cottages are equipped with electric oven, microwave, ceramic electric hob, fridge, dishwasher, colour television and Wifi should you need to keep in touch with the outside world. Heating and power included in rent together with bed linen and towels. Smoking, e-cigarettes, vaping is not allowed within the cottages, neither are candles or naked flames.
