Once you’ve started clambering, climbing and abseiling, you might not want to stop! Here are some of the best venues and teachers in North Wales that specialise in climbing.
Anglesey Adventures, Holyhead
Boost your confidence in the great outdoors with the folks at Anglesey Adventures. Their beginners' tuition takes participants around some of the greatest natural landscapes the area has to offer. They also offer courses in sea cliff climbing, mountain scrambling, abseiling and more.
Anglesey Outdoors, Holyhead
This small residential centre, Anglesey Outdoors, hosts individuals, groups and families that are keen to come face-to-face with the great outdoors. When it comes to scaling cliffs, you can choose from a half-day or full day of climbing. Both tend to begin with bouldering before moving onto harness safety, belaying with others and climbing real courses to suit your ability.
Blue Peris Mountain Centre, Dinorwic
Blue Peris Mountain Centre is an indoor centre with a colourful climbing wall. Aside from climbing, the centre is a starting point for all sorts of activities, from kayaking off the Anglesey coast to abseiling in Snowdonia. For climbing, the instructors give you a harness, some rock shoes, a helmet and all the technical equipment you'll need before showing you the ropes.
Boulder Adventures, Llanberis
This adventure company uses Llanberis in Snowdonia as its base for adrenaline-fuelled fun. Boulder Adventures operates from the Bryn Du Mountain Centre and the Padarn Watersports Centre and journeys out to graded climbing spots in and around Snowdonia. How about a 100ft abseil or rock climbing around Betws y Coed? Sounds pretty fun to us.
Next to the Slate Museum in Llanberis you'll find Ropeworks, a high ropes and all-round activity centre. Go on an indoor taster climbing session or let them lead you on a mountain route in the great outdoors that's tailored to your ability and experience. Afterwards, you could take to the high ropes course and giant swing, if you've still got energy to burn.
