There's nowhere quite like Mid Wales for nature-spotting. High in the Cambrian Mountains the mirrored lake and forest paths of Bwlch Nant yr Arian Visitor Centre in Ceredigion, are alive with the sight of red kites gathering for their daily feed, a spectacle that stops walkers, runners and mountain‑bikers in their tracks.
At the source of the River Severn in Powys, Mid Wales, the dog-friendly Hafren Forest offers a number of walks including an accessible riverside boardwalk to a viewing platform over tumbling cascades. Wildflower meadows, tall conifers, butterflies and ospreys add to its appeal.
Dyfi Forest tracks thread through a vast mix of woodland and water, with mountain‑bike routes twisting between trees and gentler paths, leading out toward the dune‑edged estuary shores of the river Dyfi, where curlews and oystercatchers can be spotted.
