Monty's Brewery, Powys
The Monty's Brewery Visitor Centre in Montgomery gives you a chance to buy bottles, taste award-winning beer and chat with the makers. There's a big viewing window which lets visitors see into the 250-litre development brewery, where the Monty's team develops recipes, researches the flavour profiles of hops and brews experimental beers that you can buy in the shop. Tours and tastings can be pre-booked for eight or more people.
Apple County Cider, Newcastle (Monmouthshire)
Apple County Cider Co. is based on a farm near Skenfrith, between the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye Valley. Its real cider and perry is made by the slow, cool fermentation of freshly pressed juice from the bitter-sweet apples grown in local orchards. Groups can go on a tutored cider tasting and tour, or individuals can join in on an orchard walk or picnic. The shop in the barn stocks every line of Apple County Cider, including traditional still cider straight from the vat.
Gower Brewery, Gower
The epic Gower Peninsula is famous for its long beaches, hidden caves, rolling hills and, in this case, fine ales. For groups of over 10 people (though smaller groups can often be accommodated too), there are one-hour brewery tours of the Gower Brewery that share the making and flavour of Gower Gold. Once you finish there, drive four miles to The Greyhound Inn, one of three pubs in the area owned by the brewery, to try even more of the brewery's ranges.
Tomos Watkin, Swansea
The traditional ales and lager from Tomos Watkin Brewery have been a firm fixture in Welsh pubs for years, but most recently they've ventured into brewing craft ales too. See behind the scenes by booking a group tour with a trained brewery guide. Over three hours, you'll go on a guided tour of the brewery before heading to the open bar for a tasting session and buffet. If that's not enough, many pubs in the vicinity stock their local brewery's popular lines.
Tiny Rebel Brewing, Newport
One of the biggest brewing companies to come out of South Wales in the last decade is Tiny Rebel. Their current premises opened in 2017 to meet the growing demand for their beers. Visitors can take a tour of the factory to see the processes involved, get hands-on with hops and try a few beers. Book online to secure a slot. After the tour, hit the on-site bar for more tasting, or treat yourself to some merch or a few bottles-to-go in their shop.
