Santa Specials on Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway

The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway welcomes families to enjoy its Santa Specials, combining a traditional steam train journey with plenty of Christmas magic. Departing from the historic station at Llanfair Caereinion, the train travels through the beautiful Mid Wales countryside to Castle Caereinion and back.

During the journey, children will meet Santa and his elves on board the train. Each family receives a specially made Christmas decoration and a ticket to Santa’s Workshop. Once back at Llanfair Caereinion, children can visit Mrs Claus and her Maker Elf to choose their Christmas gift.

There are festive treats for everyone, too. Adults receive a mince pie and a non-alcoholic seasonal hot drink, while children are given a festive biscuit and a carton of juice. Visitors can also enjoy seasonal refreshments at the station tearoom before or after their journey.

The train journey lasts around 70 minutes, with the full experience taking approximately 90 minutes.

Advance booking is essential, and visitors are advised to wrap up warmly.

SEND specials operate on Wednesday 16th December. Trains on this day have an adapted experience suitable for those with special educational needs, with a reduced number of tickets and discounts for carers.
