The Big Draw at Plas Newydd

This autumn half term from 24 October to 1 November, Plas Newydd is hosting a Big Draw event.

The artist Rex Whistler came to Plas Newydd many times between 1938 and 1940. Commissioned by the 6th Marquess and Marchioness to paint a mural in the long, new dining room, he was inspired by his surroundings to paint and sketch during his visits.

Today you can be inspired by the paintings and drawings of Rex Whistler in the collection at Plas Newydd. Discover drawing items set up inside the house to get your own creative juices flowing. Pick up a pencil and be inspired by Whistler's famous dining room mural. Why not try your hand with pastels, pencils and easels set up at the Cricket Pavilion? Take in the view just like Whistler himself and be inspired by what you see. Sit for a while and create your own masterpiece.

The Big Draw is a global festival celebrating art and the importance of creativity. In 2026 the theme is Make a Mark. The National Trust is an official partner of the Big Draw Festival. Free event, normal admission applies.
