About Anglesey Sea Zoo

Come face to face with the fascinating sea life that lives around the coast of Wales, while also supporting a worthy cause! Anglesey Sea Zoo may look like a regular aquarium from the outside, but we are so much more than that. Not only are all of our resident animals native to the coast of the UK, but we are also a marine conservation centre, and the money from your entry ticket goes towards our vital conservation work, which you can come and see up close during your visit! See our seagrass growing tank, where we work with local partners and experiment with different methods of growing seagrass with the aim of replanting it around our coast and reestablishing the lost seagrass meadows of North Wales - a crucial habitat for so many native species. Visit the Lobster Hatchery of Wales, where we rear European lobster larvae and release the juvenile lobsters on our shore, to help support local lobster populations in the Menai strait and combat overfishing. Plus, not only is Anglesey Sea Zoo the only aquarium to house BOTH species of British seahorse (spiny and short-snouted), but we also run a native seahorse breeding programme with the goal of one day being able to release our captive-bred seahorses into the wild.

Just don't come expecting a Sea Life centre, because that is not what we are! The idea of Anglesey Sea Zoo is to show off the amazing biodiversity of our native waters that people don't normally get to see. We do not have brightly coloured fish and crystal blue waters. All of the water in our tanks is pumped directly from the Menai strait, giving our animals a natural environment that mimics our seas which are, in the best way possible, dark, turbid, and full of seaweed and algae. Our resident animals have lots of hiding places, but don't worry - if you can't spot them one of our team will be happy to tell you where they normally like to hide.

Anglesey Sea Zoo's gift shop is a must for the end of your visit. Packed with high-quality gifts from local suppliers, you'll find something for everyone. Aspiring marine biologists can find academic textbooks to improve their species identification skills, avid chefs might find something in our range from Dylans, and jewellery lovers will enjoy our gorgeous range of jewellery made from seashells native to New Zealand, or even experience choosing your own oyster from Japan and having your own unique pearl prepared right in front of you. The perfect gift for a loved one, or for yourself!

After stopping for a panad in our Rockpool cafe, there's still the play park, bouncy castle, remote-controlled swamp boats, and mini golf to explore! Not to mention daily aquarium talks and feeds with our team of aquarists who are happy to stop and answer any questions long or short. Anglesey Sea Zoo has something to keep everyone in the family entertained, all while supporting local wildlife conservation.
