This is where Dylan Thomas was born in 1914, in the front bedroom overlooking the street. He lived here with his family for the first 23 years of his life. Most of what we now recognise as his early work was shaped within these walls, written at a small desk, influenced by the sounds, rhythms and characters of Swansea itself.
The house has been carefully restored to how it would have felt in Dylan’s childhood, returning it to its Edwardian character. It is not presented as a museum, but as a lived-in home. The rooms are intimate. The details are domestic. Visitors often remark on the sense of closeness to the past, as if the family have only just stepped out.
House visits offer a gentle, unhurried journey through the restored rooms, giving a glimpse of everyday life in the years that shaped Dylan’s imagination. It is a quietly powerful way to understand how place and memory fed the writing of “this sea-town”.

Number 5 is open for guided visits on Wednesdays and Sundays. Booking in advance is essential, and occasional closures may occur due to filming or special use of the house. Afternoon tea or tea & Welsh cakes can also be arranged in advance for those who wish to linger a little longer.
