About Picton Castle Gardens

Discover Picton Castle’s medieval origins and gorgeously decorated Georgian interiors, fully furnished with original art and antiques.

Constructed in 1315, Picton Castle was owned by the Philipps family for over 500 years, before it was gifted to the Picton Castle Charitable Trust in 1987. Experiencing over 700 years of turbulent history, Picton Castle has withstood sieges from Owain Glyndwr in 1405, and Royalist forces during the English Civil War, remaining unscathed.

In the 17th and 18th Centuries, the Philipps family lavished some of their wealth and fortune on the castle, hiring leading architects to remodel the interior into a Georgian stately home, which can still be enjoyed today.

Castle Interiors

Wander through the beautiful Walled Garden and explore natural habitats in our ancient woodlands and sweeping meadows, set within a 50-acre Royal Horticultural Society Partner Garden. Our gardens are home to a nationally important collection of ferns and an impressive array of wildlife, including rare bats, slow worms, hedgehogs, and a variety of birds and insects.

Children can explore the Jungle Boardwalk and journey through exotic plants, wander through the maze, then let their imagination run wild at our Adventure Playground. They can also enjoy free trails around the gardens, activities in the family room, geocaching, and summer lawn games.

Open all year. All dogs are welcome on leads (assistance dogs only in the castle).
