    Visitor levy or 'tourism tax'

There are no imminent plans to introduce a visitor levy in Wales. A consultation launched on 20 September 2022 outlining proposals for a visitor levy, which local authorities could choose to apply or not. The careful process of developing proposals for a visitor levy, translating them into legislation, and then implementation spans years, and would ultimately be subject to approval by the Senedd. Visitor levies are commonplace across the world, with revenues used to the benefit of local communities, tourists and businesses. A levy would be discretionary for local authorities based on the needs of their areas.
