A peaceful oasis on the outskirts of Cardiff, Dyffryn has something new to discover on every visit, from intricate themed garden rooms to sweeping formal lawns and productive kitchen gardens to a large arboretum. The gardens host a number of different styles inspired by countries from all over the world, from a recognisable Italian influence in the Pompeiian Garden to the rainforest-like quality of the plants in the Exotics Garden. With a café, shop and second-hand bookshop, there is a lot to see and do on a visit to Dyffryn.

We have a free car park with an EV charging hub, we also welcome pre-booked group visits and offer minibus and coach parking. We are a largely accessible site with blue badge parking, accessible toilets at regular intervals and step-free routes around the garden. We have a mobility scooter and wheelchairs available for hire (free of charge), we recommend pre-booking these to ensure availability. There is also often have a volunteer-run buggy to take visitors round the gardens. Dyffryn is a Welsh learning site which means there are a few members of staff who are fluent in Welsh but many members of staff are actively learning and enjoy engaging in Welsh when the opportunity arises. All of our signage and marketing materials both on and off-site are bilingual. English and Welsh are the only languages we operate in.
We accept pre-booked group visits and groups of 15 or more qualify for a lower admission charge. National Trust members go free with their membership card. To qualify for the group discount, groups must be 15 or more (whether National Trust members or not), book in advance and pay in one transaction. Please email dyffryn@nationaltrust.org.uk to request a group booking pack.
The gardens are open 363 days a year (only closing on Christmas and Boxing Day) and open at 10am every day. Closing times vary depending on the season, for current opening hours please visit the Dyffryn Gardens website. For usual visits (not including group and special events) there is no pre-booking system, however we frequently hold events such as seasonal garden tours and trails for children, some of these events require pre-booking but most don't, please see the events section of our website for current and upcoming events.
These Grade I listed gardens are the product of a partnership between prominent garden designer, Thomas Mawson, and passionate horticulturalist and owner, Reginald Cory. In our work today we are building on Mawson and Cory’s spirit of tradition and experimentation in our approach to restoring the gardens. Our aim is not to achieve an exact historical recreation but rather to hold the historical Edwardian roots at the heart of what we do and using new and innovative ways to make it work for the future, such as gardening with biodiversity and climate change in mind.
