St David’s day is fast approaching; so get your national pride and dafs at the ready! In honour of the patron saint of Wales, there will be celebrations taking place across the country. This is our pick of the best

Wales’ largest indoor market is holding St David’s day celebrations on Saturday 27 February. As well as a huge range of traditional welsh food on offer there will be a professional photographer offering free mounted photographs for all children dressed up in Welsh costume and Welsh themed arts and crafts.

On Sunday 28 February, Pugfest returns to Bridgend with a very Welsh twist. The organisers have promised fun for the whole family, including a grand dog show, doggie dash, face painting, kissing booth, photo booth, stalls, food stalls, Welsh choir, agility course and lots more.

St David’s Day Run 

If you are feeling energetic, sign up for the St. David’s Day run in Bute Park Cardiff. You can choose from a 1k, 5k or 10k race, all of which take place on Sunday 28 February.

This St. David’s Day, 1 March 2016, visitors will be given the opportunity to explore and enjoy some of the finest heritage sites in Wales - for free. Fourteen heritage sites will open their doors for free as part of the programme, which includes St David’s Bishop’s Palace, Caerphilly Castle, Tintern Abbey, Blaenavon Ironworks, Raglan Castle, and Caernarfon Castle, as well as many more.

National Museums Wales

St Fagan’s National History Museum, National Museum Cardiff and Big Pit National Coal Museum will all be hosting St. David’s Day celebrations on 1 March with a wealth of all things Welsh, and as always entry is free of charge.

National Botanic Garden of Wales

In honour of Wales’ patron saint, the National Botanic Garden is opening its doors to visitors free of charge from Sunday 28 February to Tuesday 1 March. On St David’s Day there will be a special Welsh craft and food fair as well as a programme of choral music from local choirs and traditional Welsh dancing

Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama

The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama will be celebrating all things welsh this St David’s day with music from some of the greatest living welsh composers. Organisers are promising a moving and inspiring programme, garnished with traditional folk song and plenty of Welsh pride.

St David’s Day: An evening at the Senedd 

To mark ten years since the Senedd was opened, the National Assembly for Wales will be hosting a special St David’s Day evening with the building’s architects, Lord Richard Rogers and Ivan Harbour. The architects will discuss the thought process behind the building’s original design and the challenges they faced during its construction, as they reflect on the project ten years on.

Senedd family weekend

Further celebrating its ten year anniversary, the Senedd will hold a weekend of activities for families on the weekend of 5-6 March. The weekend will include performances by S4C’s Sioe Cyw; Britain’s Got Talent finalists, Ysgol Glanaethwy; City Voices Choir and NoFit State Circus. There will also be workshops and activities as well as the opportunity to take a tour of one of Wales’ most iconic buildings
