Dog-friendly hotels in Wales

If you're after a dog-friendly hotel, there are lots to choose from. We've put together some options to help you find one paw-fect for you. Most dog-friendly hotels have a certain number of rooms set aside as suitable for pets. While it's unlikely you'll be allowed to leave your pet alone in the room, unless it's in a crate, some hotels can advise about local dog sitters or doggy day care. There will be varying policies on which areas of the hotel your dog can join you in so it's always best to check when booking.

South Wales is a great destination for a dog-friendly break, with plenty of countryside or clifftop walks, historical sites and urban adventures to be had. Escape from the urban jungle with a relaxing break at this gorgeous Grade II Victorian mansion. Nestled in woodland, Coed-y-Mwstwr Hotel has seven dog-friendly rooms available, including a junior suite and an accessible room. Dog bowls are provided in the room. While dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant, they are welcomed in the bar and lounge areas. Family-run Ty’n Rhos Country House is a peaceful haven with a fine dining restaurant. Dogs over 18 months old are welcome to stay in some of the bedrooms - the hotel is happy to advise which rooms would be best for you and your canine friend. Pets are allowed in your bedroom and the gardens, but not in the public areas. It's a short drive to lovely walks overlooking the Menai Strait, or for more strenuous walks in Eryri National Park.

Enjoy a break in a gorgeous 18th century farmhouse in a tranquil valley, with the coast just down the road. Dolffanog Fawr overlooks Llyn Mwngil (Talyllyn Lake), which is in turn overlooked by the imposing Cader Idris mountain! The best views are definitely from the property's hot tub. Dogs are welcome if arranged in advance, however you'll need to provide their beds. Pets aren't allowed to be left alone in the room unless they are in a dog crate.

Two of the eclectic rooms in The Royston are pet-friendly, and they will accept one small-medium sized dog per room with advance notice. The house was a Victorian 'gentleman's residence', lovingly transformed into a modern 7 bedroomed luxury guest house. Each room has views over the surrounding Cambrian Mountains, and there are plenty of walks on the doorstep for you and your hound to explore.

The Falcondale Hotel's resident dog, Snoopy, is happy to host canine companions. As well as a dog-friendly menu, you'll find a dog bed, blanket, bowl and towel in the room to use during your stay, and maybe some doggy treats as well. Dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant, but are welcomed in the conservatory. The grounds are perfect for walkies, and they have an outside hose to wash muddy dogs. Humans are also well catered for in this countryside retreat - the restaurant is superb, or treat yourselves to an afternoon tea.

The New Gower Hotel is a small, luxurious hotel in the gorgeous Bishopston Valley. The hotel has five comfortable, dog-friendly lodges separate from the main building. Famous for being a haunt of Dylan Thomas, Brown's Hotel is now a welcoming, luxurious home-from-home for you and your canine companion. Most of the rooms are dog-friendly, however it's best to speak to the hotel in advance to book and for more information. Pets aren't allowed in the dining areas. The hotel is in the centre of Laugharne, a pretty estuary town, with easy access to shops and walks.

Practically on the beach, Oxwich Bay Hotel has five boutique rooms in their on-site cottage available for pets and their owners. They'll provide a dog bowl and towel for use during your stay, and some delicious dog biscuits. The restaurant has a dog-friendly area at certain times.
