About Brecon Mountain Railway
One of the most popular railways in Wales, the line runs from Pant (3 miles North of Merthyr Tydfil) to Torpantau, following part of the route of the original Brecon & Merthyr Railway which closed in 1964.
The journey takes you into the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons National Park), through Pontsticill and along the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservior before climbing to Torpantau high in the Bannau Brycheiniog and the summit of the original line.
All trains travel non-stop from Pant to Torpantau. All returning trains from Torpantau stop at our intermediate station in Pontsticill where you can alight and visit the Cafe, admire the view across the water to the peaks of the Bannau Brycheiniog or go for a ramble alongside the reservoir. There is also a play area here for children.
At our main station in Pant, you can visit our Tearooms for refreshments. A variety of gifts and souvenirs are available from our Shop. You can also visit our Workshop where the Steam Locomotives and Carriages are repaired or follow the footpath to a picnic site which has an amazing panoramic view of the valley.
Dogs are welcome for a small charge. Assistance dogs are free.
