Why play here?
Machynys provides a modern twist on the classic Welsh links experience. Though it only opened in 2005, it comfortably stands side by side with its more venerable peers, offering 7,121 yards of championship quality challenge. Highlights include the par-four fourth, where water hazards and a narrow fairway complicate the approach to a shallow green, and the 481-yard 18th, which demands a powerful drive over a swan filled lake.
Did you know?
Machynys is Wales’s first Nicklaus course, designed by golf legend Jack and his son Gary. Built at a cost of £3.5 million, its construction involved the creation of 25 acres of new lakes, 12 miles of irrigation pipes and six miles of drainage pipes. In its comparatively short life thus far, it has been the venue for numerous competitions. These include the 2012 Seniors Open Amateur Championship and the Wales Ladies Championship of Europe, which Machynys has hosted on four occasions.
What the players say
‘I played this course at the end of September. I have to say I was amazed at how this course has developed. I played here back in 2006 when it first opened. It was quality then and it has only got better. The facilities are second to none to any other golf course in the area. Our partners loved the spa and we both enjoyed our lunch from the fantastic clubhouse. The course was presented in superb condition, which was amazing considering the weather we have had this year. I highly recommend playing this course.’
