Black Mountains Smokery, Crickhowell
Experience award winning, traditionally oak smoked fish, meats and cheese. Tours of the smokery, demonstrations and a tutored tasting is available for up to 12 people on Wednesdays from March to September at 11:00am. Private tours can be arranged at other times on request.
Blaenafon Cheddar Company
A family run cheese company based in Blaenafon. Tastings are available for individuals and small groups usually from Monday - Saturday. Tasting sessions last for one hour fifteen minutes. Visitors are able to look through the new viewing window for free and purchase products on site. Larger groups can be accommodated by prior arrangement only (not on Sundays). The Taste Wales package offers a meet and greet with tea/coffee, business presentation, cheese tasting, tour of the production and retail site and a three course Taste Wales lunch. The cost is £20 p.p. (driver and guide are free). A visit can be combined with the Big Pit National Coal Museum, where their Pwll Mawr cheese is actually matured 300ft below ground at the bottom of the mine shaft.
A range of experiences are on offer within the natural outdoor environment of the Snowdonia National Park. The relaxing and enjoyable ‘hands on’ skills include foraging, butchery, knife skills and bushcraft cooking. Clients will also learn how to make fires and build shelters. Experiences can be tailor made to suit all requirements and needs, and are delivered by qualified experienced instructors.
Carmarthenshire Cake Adventure
Enjoy a 52 mile cycle trail of Carmarthenshire’s sweet hot spots on a clockwise circular journey. The whole adventure can be done in one day but cyclists may want longer to enjoy the scenery and to sight see. There is the option of course to just choose sections of the trail.
Caws Cenarth Cheese, Lancych, Cenarth
Caws Cenarth has been made at the farm in Lancych since 1986 and includes the famous Perl Wen and Perl Las cheese. Your clients can visit the dairy, watch the cheese been made and enjoy tasting the cheese on a tour.
Caws Teifi Cheese, Glynhynod Farm, Llandysul
Caws Teifi is made at an organic family farm producing award-winning artisan cheeses since 1982. The cheese is made from locally sourced raw milk. 'After hours' tours of the dairy with tastings is possible for groups (minibus or coaches up to 28 seater). A farm shop is on-site and they have a programme of events throughout the year.
Dryad Bushcraft, Swansea
A range of courses are on offer including a one day Wilderness Gourmet course for groups of six or more. The day includes preparing a meal in the outdoors using food foraged from the wild, depending on season. Clients will cook the food on a wood fire with help and advice on making the best use of ingredients and materials from an experienced chef. Tailor made experiences are also on offer.
Fishing and Foraging Wales, Pembrokeshire
Guided lure angling for bass and other species or search for shellfish and seaweed or fungi and edible plants. The treasures that you will find in Pembrokeshire and the Gower paired with local ingredients are then prepared or cooked to a very high standard over open flames during the spring, summer and autumn.
Fungi Forays, near Rhayader
Wales has the ideal climate for wild mushrooms. Fungi Forays offers guided foraging trips looking for edible mushrooms and the day ends with a mushroom-based meal, plus a preserving and tasting session at Daniel's converted 17th century milking parlour. If one day isn’t enough, they also offer breaks.
Halen Môn Anglesey Sea Salt, Anglesey
A behind the scene tour of the saltocte and visitor centre lasts approximately 60 minutes and ends with a salt tasting. Your clients will discover their story, the hand-harvesting process and what makes Halen Môn Sea Salt the world's finest seasoning. Tours run every day at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00, suitable for up to 12 guests. However, they can do special tours for larger groups and can accommodate up to 45 delegates on evening and weekends and up to 28 on week days. Booking in advance is essential. There is a gift shop and pop-up café outside overlooking the Menai Strait. There is suitable parking for coaches.
Loving Welsh Food, Cardiff
Loving Welsh Food offer a variety of food and drink tours, safaris, cooking workshops and presentations for individuals and groups. The Cardiff tasting tour, which runs every Friday and Saturday, takes in the sites, smells and tastes around the capital city calling into specialist food producers and retailers. It’s also a good way to get to know the city. The Cardiff lunch and landmarks tour runs on the first Saturday of every month. New for 2020 is the Green Food Tour which visits eco-friendly venues and is available Monday to Friday. Private and customised tours can be arranged. All tours can also be offered in Welsh, French, Italian, Spanish and German on request.
Sea Fishing Trips, Conwy
Wreck fishing, general ground fishing, reef and bank fishing trips with skipper, Carl Davies, for individuals or groups up to twelve people starting from Conwy Morfa. Trips last for six - twelve hours and shorter evening trips can be arranged. The lobster safari is a shorter two hour trip which takes in the Great Orme with an opportunity to learn about the world of the lobster and see wildlife such as seals and seabirds, ending with a chance to buy lobster and crab. St George's Hotel in Llandudno has teamed up with Carl and can offer to cook your fresh lobster for your evening meal.
Wild About Pembrokeshire
Choose a course to learn about wild produce, and the lanes, green byways and coastline around the historic Cathedral City of St Davids. No walk or course is the same because of the different ingredients each season offers. There will be lots of fun experimenting with different flavours and discovering all sorts of weird bits of information whilst enjoying Pembrokeshire's glorious scenery.
Hotels arranging food tours
The Angel Hotel, Abergavenny
The Angel Hotel is working with local businesses and developing new product ideas and things to do for small groups. This includes culinary breaks, group foraging trips with Brecon Beacons Foraging, wine tasting at Ancre Hill Vineyard and 'The Gourmet Gardener' workshop at Llanover. Please note that these are currently not running but they hope to be able to offer these again in 2021.
The Retreats Group, St Davids
The Retreats Group in St Davids offer three luxury boutique hotels including Twr y Felin (a former windmill), Roch Castle and Penrhiw Priory. They can offer unique breaks including foraging with west Wales Coastal Foraging and dining experiences.

The country is a melting pot of fresh and varied ingredients, and some of the country's top chefs are opening up their kitchens to pass on top tips to culinary-minded travellers.
Angela Gray at Llanerch Vineyard, Vale of Glamorgan
Angela Gray is a food writer, food consultant and former chef to the rich and famous including Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. She has appeared on many foodie programmes on BBC radio and TV, written food related articles for newspapers and magazines and has also written a number of books. Angela’s cookery school at Llanerch Vineyard offer an exciting programme of courses and events including one day courses, skill builders, masterclasses, cookstart academy, Saturday Morning Kitchen, lunch club, chef nights, special events, Weber Grill academy and bespoke events. The vineyard also offers five star accommodation at Hotel Llanerch Vineyard with 37 rooms, a bistro cafe and bar and vineyard tours.
Chocolate House, near Pontypridd
The Chocolate House is housed at The Mining Experience in Rhondda Heritage Park. Anne and Elizabeth sell their award-winning chocolates from a traditional shop within the museum and offers bespoke workshops and luxury experiences. They also run Caffee Bracchi on site and offers afternoon tea.
The Culinary Cottage, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire
The Culinary Cottage is located near the market town of Abergavenny, overlooking the Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Penny Lewis offers a range of cookery courses including 1-5 days residential courses, one day courses and speciality courses. The 150 year old country cottage offers 4-star accommodation with three rooms. Courses are restricted to small numbers to ensure that everyone gets involved.
Deli Delights Kitchen, Aberporth
Located minutes from the coast, Deli Delights offer half day and full day workshops, master classes and residential cookery courses, which includes accommodation. Clients can choose from a range of subjects, including an introduction to patisserie, chocolate and truffle making, savoury bakes and Welsh bakes. All can be adapted to the requirements of the group.
The Drovers Rest, Hay on Wye, Powys
The Drovers Rest Restaurant has a cooking school in Llanwrtyd Wells, Mid Wales, with courses exploring traditional Welsh cooking as well as contemporary tastes and techniques. They range from a few hours to several days and includes dinner parties, everyday cooking, patisserie day, Welsh cooking day and vegetarian dishes using sustainable local food.
Markets, festivals and home hosted dinners
A great way to find out about food in Wales is to visit a local Farmer’s market. Many locations throughout Wales have farmers markets where you can buy food direct from producers.

Food Festivals Wales’s culinary calendar, which represents a celebration of the great flavours of Wales, has over 40 food festivals taking place throughout the year. Festivals are a great opportunity to taste, talk about and buy the best local produce available directly from the farmer or food producer.

A great way to enjoy home cooked meals with local people so that your guests can experience Welsh food with Welsh families and learn about life in Wales.
