About Aberystwyth Cycling Festival at Aberystwyth
With some of Britain’s top cyclists making a rare appearance in Mid Wales, Abercyclefest is a celebration of cycling including Aberystwyth town centre Criterium Racing, Downhill mountain biking, Hill Climb and a mass participation ride.
Cycle festival events include:
AUDAX - Saturday 28th May
A 212km route starting and finishing in Aberystwyth. Riders will ride an anti- clockwise loop visiting commercial controls at Crossgates, Newtown & Tywyn.
The event is in association with Afan Outdoor Leisure where the event will start and finish controls and the catering.
BREEZE RIDE - Saturday 28th May 9:30 - 12:30
tarting and finishing at The Hut Cafe on the seafront at South Marine Terrace, we will follow the Ystwyth Trail to Llanilar and return the same way. More or less traffic free, apart from crossing the A487 and then a mile on a country lane. Suitable for hybrid bikes and mountain bikes.
SUMMIT CYCLES GRAVEL RIDE - Sunday 29th May 10:00 - 14:00
A new event for 2022 incorporating a social ride for gravel & MTB bikes.
FILM EVENING - ONBOARD: The Transcontinental Race - Tuesday 31st May 18:30 - 21:30 - NLW
An evening of cycling at the National Library of Wales. After a drinks reception, thefeature film this year is ONBOAR :The Transcontinental Race
Q&A The film will be followed with a question & answer session with a special guest from the race who can share their experiences of what it takes to complate the Transcontinental. Tickets £3.50 available from National Library Box Office
YSTWYTH 10 MILE TIME TRIAL - Thursday 1st June - 19:00 - 21:30 - Cwm Rheidol
Come and ride a friendly traditional ‘club ten’. The 10 mile time trial is still one of the backbones of the British cycling club scene. Our local club ‘Clwb Beicio Ystwyth’ are hosting a ’10’ for us, down at the Cwm Rheidol visitor centre. The ride starts and finishes here, heading out to Capel Bangor and onto Lovesgrove, turning at the roundabout at 5 miles before heading back.
Entry is £3 and all entries are taken at the start line.
FAMILY RIDE - Hosted by Sustrans - Thursday 2nd June - 10:00 - 11:30
A fun family ride from Aberystwyth sea front to Glan yr Afon or optionally on to Capel Bangor, and back. The total distance being respectively 5.5. Limited spaces - 20. Registration with Sustrans
YSTWYTH JUNIOR TRAINING EVENING - Thursday 2nd June - 18:30 - 20:30 - Penglais School
Youth Cycling Evening - Open to non-members. Any child can come along and participate in an evening of skills coaching with qualified cycle coaches from Ystwyth Cycling Club.
PAUL JAMES MEMORIAL HILL CLIMB - Friday 3rd June - 10:00 - 15:00 Cefn Llan, Llanbadarn
Take on the notorious 25% Cefn Llan hill.Youth races at 10:00. Seniors from Midday.
Riders will start in pairs (32 max) with each winner progressing to the next round, with a Plate competition for the losers and categories for vets and ladies too. Cactws Trophy for the best local rider
BMX DISPLAY & SKILLS WORKSHOP - Friday 3rd June - 18:00 - 20:00 - Parc Kronberg, Boulevard St Breuic
An exciting new event for AberCycleFest, at Parc Kronberg Skate & BMX facility. Join experienced BMX riders from STAYSTRONG who will give skills workshops and perform some displays.
CRITERIUMS - Town Centre Races - Saturday 4th June 09:00 - 20:45
The roads of Aberystwyth are closed for bike racing when the Welsh Circuit Race Championships hits town! The award winning course circumnavigates the iconic 19th century Old College, the 13th century Castle, the Victorian Pier and also brushes the town centre.
Cyclists from as young as 8 years old also have their chance to race in Aberystwyth Town Centre. Race day starts at 10am with various races for local primary school children, followed a race for beginner ladies, and then a Fancy Dress Parade. Finally the Welsh Circuit Race Championships will be held throughout the afternoon and evening.
CONSTITUTION HILL DOWNHILL MTB - Saturday 4th June - 09:00 - 17:00
Downhill mountain bike racing is one of the most watched disciplines of cycling and certainly one of the most exciting. Aberystwyth now has the chance to experience this action within its boundaries as the Aber Cycle Festival brings downhill mountain biking to Constitution Hill on the seafront. Some of the UK’s best downhillers will compete all day on Saturday, using the morning as practice with the main competition in the afternoon providing a full days entertainment for spectators.
WELSH WILD WEST SPORTIVE - Sunday 5th June - 08:00 - 16:00 - Aberystwyth Band Stand
After watching the town centre criteriums races on Saturday evening around the streets of Aberystwyth, it’s time to get out into the countryside and relax on Sunday. Explore the challenging local terrain on one of three routes which provide something for everyone.
