About Brecon County Show August at Brecon County Showground
It all began under the grand auspices of some local forward thinking and prominent landowners and businessmen and clerics in a smoky room at The Liberal Club in London when the concern was the abject poverty of Brecon Town and the rural surrounds. A Society was formed with the aim to boost farming improvements and thereby income and employment, via much coveted awards for skills for the trades of the day from ploughing to spinning of wool. The Society even purchased and run three woollen mills in Brecon to boost employment.
Today's Society has no lesser aims and the show day itself provides fantastic competition and display of all that is best in your County from its livestock, crops and horses to the domestic crafts and horticulture, as well as a trading shop window for all the myriad of local businesses that support this area and rely on its healthy trading.
It's a great and exciting day out for all and family with main ring displays and country pursuit displays to the many breeds of Sheep, Cattle, Horses Goats and Poultry. The Terrier and Lurcher Show attracts competitors from far and wide and the ever-popular Dog agility provides hours of fun for enthusiasts with the Companion Dog Show also proving very popular.
From clothing and jewellery to hand made cards, there is something for everyone. Combine this with vintage and modern machinery, Dog Show, Food Hall, Fun Fair - rides and stalls for children, a beer tent and much more you will be sure to have a great family day out.
The Show attracts over 10,000 people and with over 200 trade stands and main ring attractions there is plenty of entertainment on offer for them.
