Expect a party atmosphere as the town comes to life with live music in the pubs, busking in the streets. This is carnival weekend in Fishguard and Aberjazz keeps it going for five days.
2018 is the 15th AberJazz Festival in Fishguard and because it is 100 years since women got the vote there’s a ‘Women in Jazz and Blues’ theme this year such as Parisian style Jazz singer Gabrielle Ducomble, The Indigo Kings for original jazzy blues, Sarah Gillespie, singer songwriter with elements of jazz, blues and folk, Victoria Klewen and the True Tones, jazz with a bit of soul and the Husky Tones a punk blues band, featuring Victoria Bourne on vocals and drums, and two time British Blues awards winner, The Lisa Mann Band. We also have this year’s winner of the best named band award (if there is such a thing), the Salvador Darlings and of course our own home grown Pembrokeshire ladies, Jodie Marie and Lowri Evans.
It is not exclusively female, there are also many male artists to watch out for as well. Blues fans should not miss Greg Coulson, singer and multi-instrumentalist. Gyspy jazz enthusiasts must see the Paulus Schafer Trio, guitarist Paulus is regarded as gypsy jazz royalty For jazz with a bit of R&B we have Simon Peat and Joel White as well as one of the most entertaining R&B bands on the circuit, King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys.
