Nawr yr Arwr/Now the Hero at Brangwyn Hall

The Guildhall, Swansea, Swansea, SA1 4PE, Wales

Nawr yr Arwr/Now the Hero is an epic, large-scale site-specific performance intertwining stories of conflict via a military offensive, a raucous wedding party, a protest dance and an ancient wake. This theatrical experience will take audiences on an extraordinary journey through three narratives of war; from the beautiful Swansea Bay beach to discovering artistic treasures in the city’s iconic Brangwyn Hall.

Pre-eminent Welsh interdisciplinary artist Marc Rees will transform the city of Swansea for the five days in an immersive two and half hour production, working with a stellar creative team including Jóhann Jóhannsson, Owen Sheers and Polyphony.

This ambitious project will be a highlight in Wales of the programme for the final year of 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary. Nawr Yr Arwr/ Now The Hero will be the opening event of the 2018 Swansea International Festival.

The performance is two and a half hours long and is mainly promenade - the audience will travel from Swansea beach to the Brangwyn Hall where it will end at approximately 9pm. The performance is partly outside so please wear suitable clothing and footwear and avoid bringing large bags; it is not suitable for children under 12.
