Ten Y Fan is an annual event that involves people of all ages trying to climb Pen Y Fan (the highest mountain in South Wales) 10 times in 24 hours. The event was originally set up by Steve Western, Steve Copeland, Lee Gillen & David Watkins to raise money for young Harri from Cardiff who was only 4 when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
Last years event was superb and exceeded all expectations. Volunteers turned up from all over to help - there was a team of ladies who stayed all through the night at the registration desk to monitor the climbers, Harri's grandparents cooked a BBQ until the early hours, a family who brought a campervan and made hot drinks for all and there were even students who set up a physio tent for all the aching limbs. Over 140 climbers took part with 11 completing the full 10 climbs!
Since then the Ten Y Fan team have pledged their support to helping a different charity each year and 2016 sees us looking to raise £100,000 for LATCH who helped Harri & his family with much needed treatment and support.
Make no mistake, the full 10 climbs is a real challenge but it is the taking part that counts. Participants don’t have to climb the full 10, just do one if you like. Just help us reach our goal of £100,000 sponsorship!
