The romantic village

Built in the style of an Italian village but set in Gwynedd, Portmeirion really is an escape into another world. Every aspect of it is considered and made to be architecturally quirky and gorgeous. Take a romantic stroll along the far-stretching beach or wander through the lush ornamental gardens. While the village can get busy during the day, once the gates shut it's like having the fairytale place all to yourselves.

The poetic pub retreat

Laugharne, a quirky seaside town in Carmarthenshire, is essentially Dylan Thomas' town. He lived there and is buried there, but the most famous spot of his is Browns Hotel, where he drank many a pint. He went there so often, he used to give out the pub phone number as his own! The area is stunning, with the nearby estuary stretching out into the distance. It was enough to woo Caitlin McNamara into Thomas' arms; now you can stay in the very location in which the bard boozed.
