The Wales Way continues to be a focus as part of a ten year development programme to increase visitors to Wales. This one epic route includes three distinct journeys that cross the country, showcasing Wales’ fascinating history, coastlines, landscape and attractions. The Wales Way is named among the 25 best trips in the world in 2020 by National Geographic. Travel Trade friendly itineraries highlighting these routes are available.
Cadw has launched a new online booking platform for customers to book through an online form direct from Cadw website, The details of existing customers have been transferred to the new system - the generic password is cadwwelcome. New customers need to contact Cadw Commercial Team - details on the website. Prices until March 2022 remain the same as April 2019 and as there is now no lower group size, these rates are for both groups and FIT. Visit the Travel Trade group visits information page.
National Museum Wales is now taking bookings into 2021 on the understanding that they may change due to COVID 19 regulations. Group sizes are limited to a total of 30 (20 at National Wool Museum) and need to be pre-booked. A full set of guidelines will be issued on booking.
Penderyn Distillery plans to open two new sites - the Llandudno distillery is hoped to be open by 2021 and the new Swansea distillery in 2022 which will be housed in the historic Hafod Morfa Copperworks site, opposite the Liberty Stadium and home to Swansea City football club. There will be an exhibition area, shop, a tasting bar and a conference suite.
Aber Falls Distillery offers a range of award-winning, premium gins and liqueurs. Their single-malt whisky will be available from 2021. Distillery tours are offered and include master classes, lab experiences, and an opportunity to sample and purchase from the range of premium quality spirits. A new visitor centre and restaurant is due to open in 2021.
2021 will see the 50th anniversary for the Offa’s Dyke Path. The path is a 177 mile (285km) trail from Chepstow in the south to Prestatyn in the north of Wales. 25 new walking itineraries will be launched on the most iconic stretches, suitable for various abilities and themes will include culture, heritage, family, mindfulness and WOW walks! There will also be a festival to celebrate in July 2021 with three weekends of walks, both self-guided and guided.
The five star Coes Faen Spa Lodge with eight luxury rooms located in Barmouth has been awarded Good Hotel Guide 2021 Cesar’s Award, one of the 10 best hotels of the year. In their review it states “located on the edge of Snowdonia, with 30 acres of gardens overlooking the Mawddach estuary, lies one of the most innovative, eco-friendly hotels in the UK…”

The Refill Cymru has launched a new app to help your clients find where they can eat, drink and shop in Wales without the pointless packaging. Nearly 1700 Welsh businesses have signed up, helping to reduce plastic and save money. Your clients can also track their environmental impact too.

Lifestyle and luxury travel magazine writers Condé Nast has listed Abergavenny in their top 10 best places in the UK to visit in 2021. The town in Monmouthshire was placed at number five in the list. The main entrance of Caernarfon Castle, The King’s Gate, will be transformed into a new accessible visitor centre during a two year project. A lift will take clients to a new rooftop deck on the upper level of the gatehouse. There will be new interactive, imaginative and immersive experiences, a refreshment area in the tower, accessible toilet facilities and an improved shopping experience. In the Porth Mawr gatehouse, two new luxury apartments are planned along with new access to the Town Walls.

Twr y Felin Hotel, Wales’ first contemporary art hotel located in Britain’s smallest city, St Davids, Pembrokeshire will open twenty new rooms in the summer of 2021. The new Garden Wing will be home to the state of the art rooms - five with coast facing terraces. The Oriel Bar will be extended and there will be a new alfresco area at the Cornel Bar.

A brand-new Outdoor Activity Centre and Waterside Cabin will open at Llys-y-Frân Lake in Pembrokeshire during Spring 2021. The visitor centre and café will also be expanded and refurbished during the redevelopment. The new centre and cabin will be a welcome addition to walkers, cyclists and watersports enthusiasts.
BikePark Wales has introduced new beginner packages for clients who wish to experience mountain biking. They will provide everything needed including bikes and all the kit, a personal guide plus lifts back to the top of the hill.
