Outdoor Education is widely acknowledged as making a significant contribution to the development of young people. The activities we offer at the Conway Centre enable pupils of all ages and abilities to gain first hand practical experience in acquiring skills. At the same time they will also learn much about themselves, their friends, their teachers and the environment in which they engage.
The centre is brilliantly situated in 169 acres of park and estate land bordering the Menai Straits. A wide variety of pursuits are available on site benefiting from direct access to the Menai Straits with Snowdonia in the background.
Activities on site include kayaking, canoeing, sailing, raft building, orienteering, low level and high level ropes courses, zip wire, problem solving and indoor climbing wall.
Most offsite activities are within a 40 minute drive accessing the beautiful coastline of Anglesey for surfing and sea level traversing or the mountains and crags of Snowdonia for hill walking, scrambling, climbing and gorge walking.
Safety, fun and learning are seen as the three key strands of a rope binding all activities both on and off-site. Parents, teachers and governors can be assured that pupils are in very capable, experienced and competent hands whilst they are engaged in outdoor activities.
Enjoyment and success are key factors in motivation and facing challenge. Activities are carefully matched against age group and ability in order to maximise the opportunities for young people to extend their experiences beyond their normal ‘comfort zones’. We do not force or coerce any pupils to participate in activities against their will, but we will actively encourage them to do as much as possible and support them throughout.
