About The Little Red House Mumbles

Croeso - welcome - to The Little Red House, Mumbles. It is a comfortable, traditionally furnished, well-equipped cottage that sleeps six. It is surrounded by its own garden and has two private off-road parking spaces - both rarities in Mumbles.

The seafront promenade is within 5 minutes’ walk, as is the village centre, with its variety of shops, cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants. Blow the cobwebs away on the scenic Wales Coastal Path, golf courses and cycle routes nearby, or explore Gower’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its magnificent beaches. Otherwise simply relax and enjoy Mumbles’ local attractions.

About The Little Red House
The spacious sitting room is upstairs. Doors open onto a balcony with seating, while to the front you can enjoy a view across the bay - on a clear day you can see the Black Mountain in the Brecon Beacons. The smart TV has Netflix, DVD player. There is a selection of board games, books and DVDs and an extra table and chairs for games, work and play. Among the books you will find local guides and maps for exploring the area on foot, by cycle and car.

On the ground floor, there are three bedrooms, each with wardrobe and chest of drawers: two doubles (one with ensuite bathroom with bath, WC and separate shower cubicle) and a twin room with table and chairs. The family shower room has a walk-in shower, wash basin and WC. High chair and travel cot are available.

The kitchen is next to the dining room and is fully equipped, including dish washer. The utility room has a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board.

Doors open from the dining room onto the terrace and garden where there are plenty of places to sit. There is also a washing line for those damp swimming things after a day at the beach. There is sole use of a lockable shed for storing cycles, buggies and surfboards with space for hanging wetsuits.

From the private off road parking places, The Little Red House is approached by two short flights of steps up to the front door.

Mumbles is a popular village in Gower, South Wales. It is known for its winding lanes lined with colourful fishermens’ cottages, a legacy from a thriving oyster-fishing industry in centuries gone by. Mumbles Lighthouse is a prominent feature, as is the Victorian pier and three generations of lifeboat stations.

Within 2-3 minutes’ walk via Park Street or the churchyard, there are paper shop, Co-op, bakers, greengrocers. Adjacent Newton Road offers Post Office, fresh fish, butchers, M&S Food, Tesco, lovely speciality food shops, a variety of boutiques, outdoor equipment and hardware shops. The Captain’s Cabin newsagent supplies all you need for the beach, including body boards, sun hats and sun cream.

Local Restaurants
From favourites like seafood and fish & chips to international, plant based and fine dining, there are about 40 village cafes, restaurants, pubs and takeaways to enjoy. Joe’s Ice Cream Parlour is a popular holiday haunt, or try a breakfast, brunch or homemade cake treat at Beach Hut tea rooms by the pier.

Local Attractions
Mumbles has a castle, a pier, a public tennis court and children’s playground to explore as well as three generations of lifeboat stations! Hire Santander bikes for the 5 mile seaside track to Swansea with its museums, art galleries and covered market. Take a scenic walk along the coastal path or drive to the nearby countryside and beaches of Gower, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Sustainability
At The Little Red House Mumbles, there are bins labelled to help guests to recycle waste. The cottage is heated using a condensing boiler which recycles the heat, reducing gas consumption. Lighting is by LED or by very low wattage bulbs. Garden waste is composted or recycled. Outdoor steps are lit using solar-powered lamps. We reduce light pollution by ensuring that our outside lighting doesn't point upwards or outwards.
