Highlights of Tenby

Tenby town is steeped in history and the earliest reference to a settlement here is the 9th century. The settlement on Castle Hill would have probably been a hill fort and later it became a stone walled Castle, today visitors can walk to the top and absorb the fantastic coastal scenery. A trip to the Tenby museum on Castle Hill is well worth a visit. The old town walls were built in the late 13th century to protect the old town and fort, just wander through the Five Arches Gate and imagine going back in time. Tenby is situated on the western side of Carmarthen Bay and and has 2.5 miles of beautiful sandy beaches. The 15th century St Mary's Church stands proudly in the High Street and among the cobbled streets you will find the Tudor Merchant's House, art galleries. There are over 200 listed buildings in Tenby and Victorian architecture has been retained and maintained. The pretty harbour has it's own small Chapel and is bordered by a variety of splendid coloured terraced properties.
