SSE Enterprise Wales Senior Open

What’s the story? Returning to the European Tour schedule after a year’s absence, The Wales Senior Open will be making its first stop at Celtic Manor Resort in 2015. Spectators can expect a glittering line up of golfing greats. Past victors of the Wales Senior Open include the Senior Tour’s most prolific winner, Carl Mason, former Ryder Cup players José Rivero, Barry Lane and Philip Golding and Wales’ greatest golfer, former World Number One and Masters Champion Ian Woosnam, who has three top three finishes in five appearances in the tournament.
The Celebrity Cup
Winning English team at 2014 Celebrity Cup
When: 3–5 July
Where: Celtic Manor Resort
What’s the story? Now in its third star-studded year, The Celebrity Cup returns to Celtic Manor. Once again, teams made up of some of the biggest names in sport and entertainment representing the four home nations will to do battle at the world-famous 2010 Ryder Cup venue. Actor and comedian Rob Brydon once again captains a Welsh team including actor Philip Glenister and presenter Gethin Jones, who both played in last year’s competition. Also back for another round are Irish pop stars turned TV personalities Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy, while the Scottish team has a real football flavour with soccer legends Kenny Dalglish, Alan Hansen and Gordon Strachan all taking part. More names will be added in the run up to the competition, which is fast becoming a big fixture of the Welsh golfing calendar.
The Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex

What’s the story? Following Royal Porthcawl’s successful staging of the 2014 competition, The Senior Open Championship will return for another round in Wales in the summer of 2017. The club will be hoping to build on the success of Wales’ first Major, which saw more than 43,000 spectators flock to Bridgend to witness Bernhard Langer secure an unbelievable 13-stroke victory over a star-packed field including Tom Watson, Colin Montgomerie, Miguel Angel Jiménez and Gary Player. If you weren’t lucky enough to catch it the first time round, be sure not to miss it in 2017.
