Rocket man takes to the sky at Zip World

Richard Brown flies his Jet Suit at Zip World

Richard Browning takes off at Zip World

We’re used to seeing people flying through the air at Zip World in Snowdonia, but things got switched up recently when Europe’s largest and fastest zip zone was the venue for an amazing aeronautic event.

Real life Iron Man Richard Browning, founder and chief test pilot of Gravity Industries, came to North Wales to test out the latest version of the company’s revolutionary Jet Suit. Looking like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, this awesome piece of tech already holds the Guinness World Record for ‘the fastest speed in a body-controlled jet engine powered suit’. The visit to Zip World saw the team behind the suit taking things to the next level.

But why Zip World? It’s simple really, this incredible attraction is the ideal place to push the Jet Suit’s capabilities to the limit. Using Zip World’s high-speed Velocity 2 zip line as a tether allowed Richard to safely test the stability and acceleration of this groundbreaking technology, piloting the Jet Suit to its fastest ever speeds.

“Richard is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible – exactly the principle on which we started Zip World,” said the attraction’s co-founder Sean Taylor. “Richard travelled up Velocity – best known as the fastest zip line in the world. Riders usually reach top speeds in excess of 100mph going down – we couldn’t wait to see what Gravity’s Jet Suit can achieve going up!”

Despite being no stranger to high-speed flight Richard was still impressed with his ride on Velocity 2.

“Sliding down a zip wire that’s a mile long at the kind of speeds you can do here is pretty exhilarating,” he said. “Flying back up with 1000bhp at your fingertips is another level, but the whole place is fantastic.”

The great news is that you don’t need a rocket-powered suit for an amazing airborne experience at Zip World. Strap in for a flight along the new and improved velocity 2 zip line and you’ll hit speeds in excess of 100mph as you zoom across the former slate quarry that Zip World has transformed into the world’s most awe-inspiring aerial playground.
