Welsh writers and locations

March 6th is World Book Day. Wales has produced a number of world renowned writers, each inspired in their own way by the wonderful Welsh landscape. From Dylan Thomas staring out of his Laugharne writing shed onto the River Taf, to writers retreating to the tranquil and ancient Bardsey Island.

Wales has a long tradition of celebrating literature, going back to the first National Eisteddfod in 1176. Through to the Hay Festival, one of the world’s top literature events and a generation inspired by the writers of Dr Who and Torchwood.

Many a Welsh writer has made their mark, from the Noble Prize nominated R.S Thomas to the man who fired the imagination of generations of children and still does to this day - Roald Dahl.
