The Final of the MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year Competition also featuring concert performances by the Morriston Orpheus Choir.
MOCSA (Morriston Orpheus Choir Supporters’ Association) has a long history of supporting the Choir and helping to encourage young Welsh singers. It has been staging an annual singing competition since 1977. Previous winners of this event include Bryn Terfel and Rebecca Evans!
This year we are delighted that, for the first time, this annual Competition has been included in the programme of events for the Swansea International Festival and is being supported by Swansea University.
The event will feature performances by soloists selected from heats held earlier in the year. There will also be extensive performances by the internationally-acclaimed Morriston Orpheus Choir.
The Competition attracts entrants from music colleges across the UK. The four finalists have been selected after a series of heats and will perform before a distinguished adjudication panel.
The Competition Winner will be presented with The MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year Trophy, sponsored by Gravells of Kidwelly and The Ivor E Sims Memorial Prize of £2,000, donated by the Choir. Each of the other Finalists will receive an inscribed plaque and a cheque for £300.
This event provides the unique opportunity to see and hear some of our country’s best up and coming classically-trained soloists, and to experience concert performances from one of the leading Welsh Male Voice Choirs.
